As part of our continued learning in support of our Truth and Reconciliation Garden project, we will be viewing and then discussing the Anglican Church of Canada's film, Doctrine of Discovery: Stolen Lands, Strong Hearts on Wednesday September 20th from 7:00 pm - 9:00 p.m. The film explores the devastating decision, made over 500 years ago, by Pope Alexander VI who ruled that the lands being discovered by European explorers at the time was “empty” land and its millions of Indigenous inhabitants were “non-human”. This doctrine continues to profoundly impact Indigenous and Settler people worldwide. "This film is one of the responses of the Anglican Church’s Primate’s Commission on Discovery, Reconciliation and Justice. The purpose of this film is to respond to the calls to action by helping to provide education and insight into the racist foundations of many of our property and other laws still in existence to this day." (from the Anglican Church of Canada's website). We hope you can join us for this night of learning together.
